The Maelstrom MM-X (formerly known as the 4Sevens Maelstrom X7) follows FOURSEVENS' design philosophy of "function over form." From the start, the Maelstrom MM-X was conceived with these basic goals:
The seven output modes that the Maelstrom MM-X offers are easily accessible by simply rotating the head of the light. A completely silent 4-point switch allows selecting through the modes without detection, ideal for tactical situations. The seven modes are split into two sets, Regular (Moonlight, Low, Medium High) and Special (Beacon, SOS, Strong, High). While on the High setting, Burst Mode will put out a blazing 900 lumens of output for the first 60 seconds and then ramp down over 30 seconds to 50% of that output. A "clicky" switch is fully exposed in the tailcap for easy access, even when wearing gloves. Like many tactical flashlights, the Maelstrom MM-X has a "momentary-on" feature that is accessed by just lightly depressing the tailcap.
Moonlight (0.5 lumens, 25 days)
Low (32 lumens, 21 hours)
Medium (250 lumens, 3.7 hours)
High (Burst at 900 lumens, 60 seconds; then 450 lumens, 1.5 hours)
Strobe (10 Hz, 1 hour)
Beacon (12 hours)
S.O.S. (4.5 hours)
The Maelstrom MM-X has a crenulated stainless steel strike bezel that is replaceable with a flat bezel. The grip/anti-roll ring that comes with the flashlight is also replaceable with a flat one. Generous knurling throughout the surface of the entire light ensures confident grip even in the messiest of situations. A shock-mounted battery design holds the batteries firmly inside to the body of the light, avoiding self-destructive battery movement. The light is ready to be weapon mounted. A patent-pending anti-rattle design that accommodates either 2 CR123A batteries or 1 18650 battery without the need of spacers or adapters.
The Maelstrom MM-X includes a custom molded carry pouch designed to help retain the light even when the flap is open. It also includes a spare flat bezel, a spare flat grip ring, a lanyard, a split keyring, spare o-rings and 2 CR123A batteries. The flashlight's lens is also made of optical-grade glass, ensuring good light transmission.
FOURSEVENS flashlights come with a 10 Year Warranty against defects! Such an outstanding policy shows that FOURSEVENS is a company you can trust.
The Maestrom MM-X features a unique 4-point switch engagement in the head of the flashlight that lets you select the different outputs smoothly and silently by simply loosening or tightening the head. Every quarter-turn (approximately 90 degrees) of the head selects a different output.
As you loosen or tighten the head, you change modes as follows (in order of Loosened to Tightened): Off, Auxiliary 2, Auxiliary 1, Secondary, Primary.
The Maestrom MM-X's modes of output are split into 2 sets, Regular and Special. The following are the modes in order from Auxiliary 2 to Primary (Loosened to Tightened):
Regular: Moonlight » Low » Medium » High
Special: Beacon » S.O.S. » Strobe » High
As you can see, switching between the modes in a set is very simple - you just tighten or loosen the head to get to your desired mode.
Switching between sets is also simple. Fully tighten the head of the flashlight so that you are in the Primary mode. Then, quickly loosen and tighten the head (switching between Secondary and Primary) 4 times to change to the alternative set of modes.
