A Note on Carbon Steel:

Carbon steel offers an exceptionally strong and resilient metal for knife blades. It holds an edge very well, the trade-off being that it is not a stainless steel.

Carbon steel will develop a dull gray finish after use, especially when used in wet conditions. This is normal and is not a flaw in the metal; actually, it will somewhat improve the resistance to corrosion. This effect is only superficial and does not mean that your blade will be weakened or any less useful.

If you wish to help counter this effect, lightly coat the blade in oil before storage or use, especially if used in a moist environment.
